CJOS April 2024 Newsletter

Updated: May 14

Happy April Everyone!

Welcome to the CJOS April 2024 monthly blog post! 🌼 Happy Spring🌷 Most orchid shows in the Tri-state area are over for the next few months, but spring and summer garden planning is now in full swing. We have been having warm🌡️ sunny ☀️ days with occasional rainy 💦 weekends in between, but this is helping all of the dormant plants and trees come back from their winter rest. Nature 🦋🐞 is alive and gardens are beginning to look productive!🪱

As we progress through April and into May, you should begin to increase water for most orchids and fertilize with a well-balanced N-P-K fertilizer (especially as we head into early Summer growth). Continue to observe plants for any hidden pests and treat them appropriately. In just under a month (typically just after Mother's Day in May), it will be warm enough for most orchids to grow outside. The natural daylight and temperature adjustments between day and night will help stimulate lots of new growth and flowers.

We hope to continue to grow CJOS as a fun and knowledgeable orchid society; We welcome all to join us monthly! Happy orchid growing and gardening!

*Friendly Reminders:

  • Upcoming Event (April 18, 2024): (Speaker) John Bryan: 'Indoor Growing Spaces'
