CJOS Monthly Blog Post -
⭐ Happy August, everyone! It has been a beautiful summer filled with some wild and unpredictable weather—from hot🔥, humid temperatures to cloudy, rainy days with occasional flooding, and some truly magnificent days with moderate temperatures, low humidity, and brilliant sunshine☀️!
Hopefully, the beautiful weather will stick around for another month or so before temperatures begin to drop and we have to bring our orchids and other outdoor houseplants back inside for the season.
There’s still a strong possibility that El Niño will continue to influence weather patterns across the Garden State. Hopefully, this shift in the weather pattern will also bring more consistent and much-needed rainfall, helping to keep reservoirs replenished and plant life healthy and thriving.
⭐ Here are a couple of quick ideas for members to consider:
(1) We’re looking for members to create presentations for our monthly meetings (in between featured speakers). Topics could include your growing methods, insights on a specific orchid-related subject, or a spotlight on particular orchid plants.
(2) Our 2026 CJOS Annual Potluck Picnic: Mercer County Park (NJ) will be held on September 26, 2026 @ 12pm (Mercer County Park Festival Grounds). We’ll need a few volunteers on the day of the picnic to help organize the food and drinks. We look forward to seeing everyone there and enjoying a wonderful day together!
(3) Continue to explore our internal and ongoing discussions with DCOS (Deep Cut Orchid Society).
If you’re interested in learning more about CJOS or have any questions, please feel free to speak with our President, Chris Bevins, or Vice President, George Wallace, at any meeting. They’ll be happy to discuss any questions or provide additional information. As always, we greatly encourage and welcome your feedback—both positive and constructive!
If you’re new to growing orchids outdoors or just looking to exchange ideas, our monthly meetings are a great place to connect. Many of our members are happy to share their experience, tips, and tricks. It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts and become more involved in the society.
We hope to see you there!
Our members generously volunteer their time to support this wonderful hobby and help keep the society running smoothly. We truly appreciate everyone who participates and contributes to all that CJOS has to offer!
