CJOS October 2026 Newsletter

CJOS Monthly Blog Post -
⭐ Happy (Festive) October, Everyone! Autumn is finally upon us, and the weather has certainly been a roller coaster! We enjoyed warm temperatures through the end of September, experienced a brief cool-down in early October, and are now getting a little taste of an “Indian summer”—or should we call it an “Indigenous summer” to keep things politically correct? 😄 Whatever we call it, Mother Nature apparently isn’t quite ready to give up on summer just yet!
These seasonal shifts help nature and our plants transition toward a period of slower growth and, for some, dormancy. This is welcome news for both us and our plants—a chance to slow down, recharge, and prepare for the seasons ahead!
It is becoming increasingly evident that El Niño may continue to influence weather patterns across the Garden State through the winter and into the spring of 2027. Hopefully, these changing weather patterns will bring more consistent, much-needed rainfall to New Jersey, helping replenish our reservoirs and keep our plants healthy and thriving.
Here’s to a season of renewal, a little cooperation from Mother Nature, and another great year of growing ahead!
⭐ Here are a couple of quick ideas for members to consider:
(1) We are looking for CJOS Members to assume the roles of Vice-President (Replacing George Wallace) and Treasurer (Replacing Matthew Pagano). If you have the time and enthusiasm to take on a rewarding officer role and actively contribute to the CJOS Board, we’d love to hear from you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out and inquire about the opportunity.
(2) We’re looking for members to create presentations for our monthly meetings (in between featured speakers). Topics could include your growing methods, insights on a specific orchid-related subject, or a spotlight on particular orchid plants.
(3) Continue to explore our internal and ongoing discussions with DCOS (Deep Cut Orchid Society).
If you’re interested in learning more about CJOS or have any questions, please feel free to speak with our President, Chris Bevins, or Vice President, George Wallace, at any meeting. They’ll be happy to discuss any questions or provide additional information. As always, we greatly encourage and welcome your feedback—both positive and constructive!
If you’re new to growing orchids outdoors or just looking to exchange ideas, our monthly meetings are a great place to connect. Many of our members are happy to share their experience, tips, and tricks. It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts and become more involved in the society.
We hope to see you there!
Our members generously volunteer their time to support this wonderful hobby and help keep the society running smoothly. We truly appreciate everyone who participates and contributes to all that CJOS has to offer!
