Welcome to the CJOS Monthly Blog, Everyone!
🥂 December and the final days of 2025 are here! 🎉
December has arrived, bringing cold temperatures and snowy weather. As we move into winter, it’s important to adjust our growing practices by cutting back on watering, reducing lighting durations, and ensuring grow areas are adequately heated while maintaining proper humidity. For some growers, this can be a real challenge. Heating mats work well when used in conjunction with humidity trays and a standard humidifier.
Another strong consideration is sun angle, especially for those growing near windows. During winter in the northern hemisphere, the sun sits lower in the sky, allowing light to enter windows more directly. This can still cause leaf burn on orchids that are sensitive to intense direct light, so assessing light exposure is essential to prevent plant damage.
Our annual Holiday Party 🎉 is scheduled for December 18th. We look forward to seeing everyone as we celebrate our achievements within the plant community and in our personal lives. The holiday season also offers a meaningful time for self-reflection, evaluation, and setting new goals as we move into the new year.
The entire CJOS Officer Team would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all members whose volunteer efforts, society representation, and recruitment activities continue to keep CJOS thriving.
Wishing you all a happy and blessed Holiday Season!
If you’re new to growing orchids outdoors or just looking to exchange ideas, our monthly meetings are a great place to connect. Many of our members are happy to share their experience, tips, and tricks. It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts and become more involved in the society.
We hope to see you there!
Our members generously volunteer their time to support this wonderful hobby and help keep the society running smoothly. We truly appreciate everyone who participates and contributes to all that CJOS has to offer!
