Welcome to the CJOS Monthly Blog, Everyone!
⭐ Happy February to all our fellow orchid enthusiasts! It has been a brutally cold 🧊 and snowy ❄️ winter so far. We hope everyone is giving a little extra attention to their orchid collections, as cold microclimates within growing areas can sometimes go unnoticed—until it’s too late. These hidden chills may lead to plant damage and can stunt growth when the warmer season returns. A small space heater or relocating orchids to a warmer spot can make a significant difference. While some cool-growing orchids appreciate lower temperatures, even these plants should receive reduced watering to prevent problems during periods of slow growth or winter rest. As always, take time to research the conditions your orchids experience in nature—this knowledge is the foundation for successful growing at home.
The next exciting event on the calendar is the 2026 DCOS Show, hosted at Dearborn Market in Holmdel, NJ. The show takes place in an 11,000-square-foot, fully climate-controlled glass greenhouse—an inspiring setting for orchid lovers. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking displays from several tri-state orchid societies, explore an incredible variety of orchids available for purchase, and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Outstanding vendors from across the region will offer beautiful plants, expert growing advice, and educational lectures throughout the weekend. Bring a friend or family member and make a day of it—we look forward to seeing you there!
