Welcome to the CJOS Monthly Blog, Everyone!

☀️ Summer is officially here!

The weather has been a real rollercoaster—and a scorcher—typical New Jersey fashion. By now, many of you have likely moved some or all of your orchids outdoors. It's truly amazing to see how much of a difference outdoor growing conditions can make. The increased sunshine ☀️, warmth 🥵, rain 🌩️, gentle breezes 🌬️, and daily temperature swings between day 🔆 and night 🌙 can give your orchids—and other plants—a noticeable boost.

Just a friendly reminder: while orchids enjoy the fresh air, most varieties are sensitive to direct sunlight and can burn easily. Be sure to provide them with adequate shade and plenty of water every day to keep them happy and healthy, especially on extremely hot days.

As many of you have been informed via email, Anne Skalka has resigned from her position as President of the society. 🌟 Anne has been a valued member and a dedicated board contributor for many years. On behalf of the entire CJOS community, I want to sincerely thank her for her tireless commitment and the many ways she has helped our society grow and thrive. Her contributions have truly made CJOS a welcoming and vibrant place for orchid enthusiasts.

Stepping into the role of 💫 President will be Chris Bevins. Chris has been an active and long-standing member of the society. With his extensive knowledge of orchid cultivation, creative approach to the hobby, and strong leadership skills, we are confident he will be an excellent fit. I’m excited about the future of CJOS under his guidance, and I know he’ll continue to help the society flourish and educate orchid lovers in new and engaging ways.

Our planned June picnic had to be cancelled due to the extreme heat. We’re currently exploring the possibility of rescheduling it for late August or early September. We will keep you updated as plans develop over the coming weeks.

If you have any questions or would like to reach out, please feel free to contact me or Chris directly. In the meantime, please join me in giving Chris a warm welcome as he takes on this new role!

If you’re new to growing orchids outdoors or just looking to exchange ideas, our monthly meetings are a great place to connect. Many of our members are happy to share their experience, tips, and tricks. It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts and become more involved in the society.

We hope to see you there!

Our members generously volunteer their time to support this wonderful hobby and help keep the society running smoothly. We truly appreciate everyone who participates and contributes to all that CJOS has to offer!

If you are bringing a plant for the display table, you may now prepare and print your Plant ID tag via this 'Plant ID Cards Link'.

*The CJOS meeting venue is at Trinity Church (33 Mercer St., Princeton, NJ 08540, (USA)). The meetings are held from 7pm - 8:30pm. All are welcome to attend a meeting; especially if it is your first time and introduction to CJOS. Grab a member and ask lots of questions about what CJOS is and how to join!
